A young family purchased a breathtaking 63-acre coastal Nantucket estate with the dream of creating a multi-generational gathering place for years to come.
In the kitchen, the heart of the home, a dramatic backsplash doubles as abstract art but indestructible countertops and the deep banquette keep things levelheaded.
Each room in the main house is designed to shift in purpose depending on the time of day—like the breakfast bar which comes alive at dusk as a sleek cocktail bar thanks to bespoke cabinetry and nimble lighting design.
Built in 2000 with multiple buildings and ample grounds for additional residences, the main house was too traditional for the clients, who wanted to avoid overdone shiplap paneling, high gloss navy, white, and wicker, and start a more contemporary aesthetic conversation on the island.
A comprehensive renovation transformed this 10,000 square-foot home into a private destination for entertaining friends and reconnecting with family—one grounded in relaxed chic vibes, and multi-functional design.
The project’s focused palette was consciously limited to linen, leather, white oak, black marble, and metal with the same materials repeating throughout the additional buildings that extend from the main house via footpaths. This continuity allows the eye to travel throughout the property in a deeply serene state, focused on the magnificent Atlantic views outside as much as the moody, cocoon-like environment inside.
Comfort was prioritized first. For example, the double sectionals and large upholstered pieces are durable and informal enough for a movie night with the family’s two young children. And yet, there are also sophisticated artistic moments introduced in each room—whether it’s the daring local photography, custom chandeliers, or the plexiglass occasional chair in the living room.
